My art draws on my experience of deafness and lipreading, exploring how hearing loss and background noise shape the perception of sound and communication. Using cotton fabric, thread, and print techniques — both machine and hand embroidery — I create textured works that reflect the distortion and complexity of hearing loss. By incorporating text from real comments and reactions, I aim to highlight the challenges faced by deaf people, encourage empathy and dialogue among hearing viewers, and invite other deaf and hard of hearing people to share and reflect on the similarities and differences in our experiences.
